Singapore cherry (Muntingia calabura )


Muntingia calabura is the name of a type of tree and its fruit is small and sweet. Another name of this fruit are cherries, Kersen or Talok (Indonesia), datiles, aratiles, manzanitas (Philippines), mat sam (Vietnam), Khoom somz, takhob (Laos), takhop Farang (Thailand), krakhob goods (Cambodia) and kerukup conjoined (Malaysia). Also known as blanco Capulin, cacaniqua, nigua, niguito (Spain), Jamaican cherry Panama's berry.
Always green and flower and fruit continuously throughout the season. Horizontal branches, hanging at the ends, forming a leafy shade. Smooth-haired twigs mixed with glandular hairs, as well as leaves.


Due to the nature and durability, the cherry to be one of the plant most often found in tropical regions. Originating from tropical America (southern Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America down to Peru and Bolivia), cherry was brought into the Philippines in the late-19th century, and then quickly spread throughout the tropical regions of Southeast Asia.
Research shows fruit Cherries have many important compounds that are beneficial to the body. As revealed by Julia F. Morton in his book "Fruits of Warm Climates (1987) 'that was launched hort.purdue.edu, there are 12 important compounds from the fruit of Cherries.

     Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid or antioxidants) (80.5 mg)


High nutrient content of cherry fruit has many health benefits including:
  1. Antiseptic or antibacterial
