Petai (Parkia Speciosa) The "Stink Bean" But Rich in Benefits

Depending on the country of origin Parkia species may be labelled peteh, petai, yongchaa, yongchaak, Zawngṭah (pronounced Zongtra), sataw, or sator. They are best when combined with other strongly flavoured foods such as garlic, chili peppers, and dried shrimp, as in "sambal petai", or added to a Thai cuisine curry such as Thai Duck Green Curry. When young the pods are flat because the seeds have not yet developed, and they hang like a bunch of slightly twisted ribbons, pale green, almost translucent. At this stage they may be eaten raw, fried or pickled.
In America, even the well-known as "the most horrible food in the world" (the most terrifying foods in the world) because of the smell it produces.
Compared to an apple, a Parkia Speciosa has 4 times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.
Parkia Speciosa is a good source of energy, which is 142 kcal per 100 g of seeds. Parkia Speciosa contains three natural sugars, sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. The combination can provide an instant energy boost, but long enough and big enough effect.
Phosphorus content of the petai is also quite good, 115 mg per 100 g of seeds. Phosphorus is the second largest mineral after calcium. Approximately one percent of our body weight consists of phosphorus. DNA and RNA in our body consist of phosphorus in the form of phosphate, so that helps maintain cell membrane permeability of the cell. Most of the phosphorus absorbed by the body in the form of inorganic, especially at the top of the duodenum by 70 percent. In general, the amount of phosphorus recommended for consumption by adults is 800 mg per day, roughly the same as calcium.
Petai  also contains vitamin C which is quite high, namely 46 mg per 100 g of seeds. Vitamin C is very important roles in the hydroxylation of proline amino acid lysine clan, a clan hydroxylysine hydroxyproline. Both of these compounds is an important component of collagen. Safeguards in order to function remained fairly steady heavily influenced by whether or not the content of vitamin C in the body. Its role is in the process of wound healing and the immune system against infections and stress. Average body's need for vitamin C is 75 mg per day in women and 90 mg per day. in adult men.

Why Smelly ?
A distinctive odor is one of the characteristics of breath or urine petai fans. The cause of the odor is actually the amino acids contained in the seeds of petai. Amino acids is dominated by amino acids that contain the element sulfur (S). When degraded or fragmented into smaller components, amino acids that will produce various components of a very bad flavor. One of the gas that is formed from elements of H2S gas (hydrogen sulfide) are known to be very smelly.

Several Benefits of  Petai :
Eliminate Depression
People who are depressed can try eating a petai, because the content of petai are Tryptophan, which is a protein substance that the body converts into serotonin. This substance that makes a person with depression can feel better, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier

PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome)
For women who often suffer from PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) during the coming months do not have to worry about taking pills or anything, just to eat a petai then the issue is resolved. Vitamin B6 is found in banana regulate blood sugar levels, which can help the mood.

Anemia
For patients with anemia (less red blood cells), a petai has a high iron content, it can help stimulate production of red blood cells and help in case of anemia.

Hipertension
For those who have high blood pressure (hypertension) and stroke patients, a high content of potassium in the petai and salt can help treat low blood pressure.

Heart  and Kidney Medicinal
Free radicals are easily found in various food products, especially on products that are fried or baked. Hydrogen peroxide; superoxidee anion, and hydroxyl, are examples of free radicals. Molecule is very unstable, highly reactive, and tissue damage. Free radicals will be helpless when faced with antioxidants.
From the study of biomolecular cellular level, evidence that antioxidants can protect tissues dart negative effects of regressive free radicals. Antioxidants have formed in our body cells (intracellular), some are formed from the outer cells of the body (extracellular), one of which is from food. To help the inability of the body's antioxidant systems, some researchers have found compounds from plants yangg alarm can act as antioxidants. Apparently antioxidants than some fruits and vegetables and can be counted on to fight free radicals.
In the book Medicinal Plants: Quality Herbal Products for Healft Living (1999), written by Vimala S. et al., petai seeds have stated that the cleaning activity of superoxide (a free radical) is high, ie above 70 percent. The petai seeds are also known as a cure of liver disease (hepatatgia), edema, inflammation of the kidneys (nefiritis), diabetes, and as a laxative worms (anteimintik). The leaves are used as a drug-jaundice. Savor it is associated with an alkaloid content. In addition, the content of vitamin A and vitamin C on petai seeds for antioxidant benefits.
Petai is also very good for maintaining body temperature. Many other cultures see the petai as a fruit "cool" that can lower the body temperature and emotional child expectant mothers. In the Netherlands, for example, pregnant women eat a petai to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature. Petai is also a good hangover medicine. One of the quickest ways of curing the "disease" is drunk petai milkshake, sweetened with honey. Petai will help calm the stomach and with the help of the honey will increase blood sugar levels have dropped. While the milk soothes and re-fix the fluid level in the body.
